Resumen
Groin pain is a regular complaint in the athlete population. The term pubalgia is used in clinical practice as a general term to describe an overuse on pubic bone or a groin pain, since the region of the groin can comprehend soft tissue and/or bone structures like symphysis pubis, scrotum, lower abdomen, inguinal region, adductor compartment of the thigh, hip and other nearby structures. Because of the multi-factorial etiology of the lesions in the muscle-skeletal system and the high demand required of athletes, the groin pain is highly usual in sports, mainly on those which are require performing repetitive movements of kicks, sudden changes in direction, twisting trunk, among others. There are several conditions that can lead to complaints of pain in the groin, so the differential diagnosis must be made to better control and treatment since different changes and pathological findings can coexist. The main objective of this work was to identify through a literature review muscle-skeletal changes and / or biomechanical in athletes withgroin pain. The search was conducted between January to July of 2012 in the main databases. It were identified 174 potential studies and after taking into account the selection for inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 studies were selected for review. Were extracted from the studies the practice modality, description of the population, control group and the main findings. The modality that most prevails is soccer/ australian soccer and the most frequent findings relates to changes in the strength of the adductor muscle and transverse abdominal, reduced range of motion (ROM) of hip rotation and degenerative alterations suchas bone marrow edema, bone spurs, signs of stress fracture and alterations in the adductor enthesis. Studies shows that are necessary extensive knowledge of the professionals involved with athletes who deal with this condition. The delicate anatomy region associated with the intense training and intrinsic changes of athletes favors the emergence of pubalgia. As the overuse was identified as one of the main favors of the development of the groin pan, maybe the alterations in the training programs can help to prevent this condition on athletes.
