Considering the steps between the changes that occurred in the conception of Public Management in the last decades and the practical reality of the management, it is possible that public servants are exposed to work situations that provoke experiences of pleasure and suffering at work. The experiences of pleasure occur when the worker finds space to print his personal characteristics in the activity performed and feel recognized by his colleagues and boss, while the experiences of suffering are associated to the standardization of tasks and hierarchical rigidity (FERREIRA and MENDES, 2001). The balance between the experiences of pleasure and suffering, and the use of defense strategies, allow the worker to maintain "normality", so that the mental illness does not occur (DEJOURS and ABDOUCHELI, 2011). The research carried out the objective of analyzing experiences of pleasure and suffering among the public servants of the State Secretary for Planning and Management of Minas Gerais (SEPLAG - MG) from their own perception. In order to reach this objective, a descriptive case study with quantitative and qualitative approaches, using the methodological triangulation, has been developed. Data collection was performed through the application of the "Work Inventory and Risk of Illness" (MENDES, 2007) and interviews with semistructured script. The analysis of the quantitative data was done with univariate and bivariate descriptive statistics and the qualitative data through content analysis. The results demonstrate that the participant employees generally presents moderate experiences of pleasure and suffering, and have managed to reach a balance between these experiences, either through the pleasure they perceive with the work they do, or through the use of strategies to mediate suffering, or, even, through the resignification of suffering into pleasure. Interpersonal relationships were highlighted in the results, representing both source of pleasure and suffering, depending on the situation. The public servants did not mention the bureaucracy as a producer of suffering experiences, as observed in other researches. There was disagreement between the employees about the work rhythm, which presented a critical or moderate result in the quantitative part of the research, while, in the qualitative part, the low work rhythm predominated, even if as a promoter of suffering. The working conditions, and especially in the Administrative City space, were, also, emphasized in the findings of this research, presenting different perceptions by the employees.
