Introduction:Pubalgia is characterized by a noninfectious inflammatory process of the pubic symphysis, is caused by muscular imbalances involving abdominal muscles and hip adductors. It presents a high incidence among athletes, 2% to 25% of all sports appointments, being a serious problem, due to the distance from the sports practice for a prolonged period for the physical therapy treatment of the injury that can last approximately 3 to 9 months. Due to the increase in the number of cases, it is possible to find in the literature several proposals of non-surgical interventions for pubalgia. Objective:The aim of this study is to verify, through a narrative literature review, which are the physical therapy techniques to be used in the treatment of pubalgia in sports and to identify the level of evidence of its efficacy. METHODS: The Medline, Lilacs and PEDro databases were consulted and the following keywords were used: (groin pain OR pubalgia OR osteitis pubis) AND (conservative treatment OR physical therapy OR rehabilitation) Results and discussion: Five articles were selected for the research and read in full, which found techniques involving analgesia, muscle strengthening and stretching, manual therapy and running. Conclusion: Exercise, particularly the strengthening of hip and abdominal muscle exercise, has been found to be an effective intervention for treatment. Evidence suggests that an intervention duration of between 5 and 17 weeks may be required for exercise intervention to be effective. Thus, there is a need for further studies describing the intervention of physiotherapy in this pathology.
