The work of a forklift operator refractories industry is the focus of this investigative work, which aims to meet demands formulated by the health and safety of an industrial transportation company and find elements that will subsidize the negotiations on improving working conditions in the sector. It was developed the hypothesis that low back pain were related will adopt awkward postures of the lumbar spine; requirements arising from the path of the forklift, the time pressure and the physical effort of the operator in performing the tasks We sought to identify the main risk factors for low back pain in the operator taking into consideration their tasks and activities.The study was conducted in an industrial yard in the city of Contagem (MG). The Ergonomic Work Analysis (AET) was used to know and study the situations experienced by the worker, and from this knowledge, actions were proposed improvements, aiming to minimize the stresses of work. The study showed problems for the tasks, especially the dimensions of the workplace, characteristics of forklifts and time pressure.This paper presents the final recommendations for improvements in the physical environment and ways of performing the tasks of the operator to reduce the difficulties pointed out by workers, which can avoid losses on the transportation industry.
