Carroça livre: uma etnografia com os carroceiros e cavalos da Vila São Tomás e adjacências

Abstract

This work aims to describe and discuss the way of life of the carroceiro circuit in the Favela São Tomás, located in the northern region of Belo Horizonte. The work revolves around three axis related to each chapter respectively: the relationship between city, low-income housing, and difference; the carroceiro circuit and its bonds with diverse urban social groups from a moral community composed by humans and nonhumans; the controversial debate about the Animal Rights, the militancy for the end of animal drawn carts, and the Right to the City. This work fits within the fields of Urban Anthropology and Anthropology of Urban Environmental Conflicts, as well as Anthropology of Human-Animal Relations.
