This paper applied risk analysis techniques, specifically the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis - FMEA and Event Trees Analysis - ETA in order to contribute to the decision-making process of the Emergency Action Plan - EAP for dams. The case study was conducted at the Irapé dam, considering design information, instrumentation reporting data, field inspection reports and some literature information. The FMEA methodology was applied to identify the most critical aspects of the dam and prioritize additional studies. Regarding the application of analysis by event trees, it was not considered the current condition of the structure, but the most likely expected behavior for the phenomenon (failure mode) if it occur, according to the particularities of the structure. Also comparative analyzes were made between that expected behavior for the phenomenon and the results expected after the implementation of preventive and corrective actions in the EAP context. The result will demonstrate that the risk analysis techniques can facilitate the decision-making process of EAP's for dams, improving response time and the reliability of the actions.
