Color selection methods Traditionally, color selection in dentistry is done by visual methods, through comparisons, using some scales, such as ceramic and composite resin systems. More recently, the technology has brought the possibility of measuring the optical properties, obtaining the answer through apparatuses like spectrophotometers. The perception of the optical properties using this equipment has gained more and more followers because it makes the process objective, quantifiable and fast. The use of a spectrophotometer eliminates subjectivity during the procedure, since age, fatigue, light conditions and environmental colors make it difficult to correct the correct choice of color by the visual method. The objective of his work was, through literature review, to compare the use of the electronic method of color selection, comparing with the visual method. At the end it can be concluded that the electronic method is more precise than the visual, but because the device is just a machine, it needs a competent and trained operator and, although its use is easy, the result must be interpreted and proven through the visual scale. Keywords: Color guide, Spectrophotometer, Precision.
