Resumen
Objective: To assess from a literature review, the contribution of biomaterials and immediate implant placement, preserving the dimensions of the dental alveoli, compared to cases where no treatment was performed immediately after the extraction. Methods: A survey was conducted in major databases (PubMed, Medline, Cochrane, Embase), from the terms " Socket Fresh ", " Biomaterais " and " Imediate Implant " combined. Inclusion criteria were studies published in English from 2003. The retrieved studies were analyzed initially from the titles, then from reading the abstracts and, finally, those who came against the proposal reviewed, full texts were selected, totaling 24 studies. Results and Conclusions: The preservation of the dimensions of the alveoli is highly dependent on an atraumatic surgical technique. Furthermore, all biomaterials somehow has the potential to limit the resorption of the alveolar process. The immediate implantation technique, by itself, was not associated with the preservation of the dimensions of the alveoli. Finally, there is no consensus regarding the best biomaterial, but there is a strong trend towards more promising results for the deproteinized bone substitute .
