A saúde bucal na estratégia saúde da família: avanços e desafios

The Family Health Strategy (FHS) was implemented in the Brazilian districts on 1994 with the responsibility to contribute to the Primary Care reorganization. In 2000, the oral health team was incorporated to the primary care within the family health teams. The insertion process of the teams and their work still remains, while incipient form, incorporating the principles and guidelines of the FHS. In this way, the change of the proposal model becomes compromised. The aim of this paper was to analyze the insertion of oral health in the family health strategy and, for that reason a free bibliographical research was performed, which was directed to the national literature in order to identify the publishing works that addressed the insertion of oral health in the FHS. As result, it was identified some difficulties of the oral health teams to face and solve the populations oral health problems for a variety of factors which involve the management, the actual model, the professionals and also the customers. Among them, it was mentioned in the literature the questions related to the dentist surgeon training focused on the cure aspects and the difficulties of the district managers to understand the working process of the teams concerned promotion and prevention actions. The analyzed papers present a promising scenario for the changing matters in the oral health care model. The conclusion is that the FHS has contributed to the expansion of the insertion to oral health within the primary care. However, the establishing change of the model proposed by FHS requires an effective change within the working process of the teams and in the health professional training, in the view of promotion and health prevention.
