Resumen
Due to worries about the consequences of high sugar consumption, the use of high intensity sweeteners has increased. Their active principles, also called sweeteners, are molecules with higher sweetening power than sucrose with a small amount or none caloric contribution. As so, this work aimed to develop methods to analyze sweeteners in commercial tabletop sweeteners by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometer (LC-MS) and also to determine some inorganic compounds in this products by inductively coupled plasma massspectrometry (ICP-MS). In the chromatographic method, linearity was evaluated, the proposed linear models were significant and no lack of adjustment were detected at a 5% level of significance. LDs and LQs were at parts per trillion (ppt) levels, showing a good methods sensibility. The RSDs were satisfactory (< 7%), and recovery were, in general, between 80-115%. Sodium saccharin, sodium cyclamate, aspartame, sucralose, acesulfame-K and two steviol glycosides, stevioside and rebaudioside A, were determined in 50 samples, and whencompared with information on their labels, five presented discrepancies. In samples made with mixture of artificial and natural sweeteners, the amount of steviol glycosides was relatively small. The elemental analysis method validation was satisfactory, with significant linear models and low LDs and LQs (~10 ppb). RSDs were below 5% and the recovery was in a range of 80-115%, with one exception, in which the matrix may be affecting the analytes signal. 22 samples were analyzed, only Rb and Sr were found in most all the samples, Al was found in high levels in some of them, and Cr has exceed the legislations established limit in two samples.
