Obesity is an independent risk factor that predisposes to cardiovascular diseases, especially atheromatous diseases. When associated with other classical risk factors such as: Diabetes mellitus, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, Sedentarism and Stress, its effects are further potentiated. In countries of Europe and the United States it is considered a public health issue. Recent US data showed that 67% of the adult population are overweight and 34% are obese. For data collection, an online search was performed on the Bireme website, in the LILACS, MEDLINE and SCIELO database. The steps proposed by Ganong (1987) were used. In this way an integrative review of the national and international literature was carried out.
