The welding coating is the process in which an addition metal layer is deposited on the surface of another material in order to obtain desired properties or dimensions. It is generally used to extend the useful life of parts that do not have all the properties necessary for a given application, for the recovery of elements affected by wear or corrosion or for the creation of surfaces with special characteristics. The use of welding coating to create surfaces with special characteristics has increased in the industrial environment and, considering the different types of coating materials, stainless steels are characterized as one of the most frequent applications. For these cases, stainless steels are generally deposited on surfaces of carbon steels or low alloy steels, producing a layer with anti-corrosive and strength properties required to withstand environments subject to high corrosion wear. The results of this process have made this application quite attractive in that corrosion resistant surfaces can be produced from common and lower cost materials compared to the use of pure stainless steel components which are costly. Therefore, the applications of welding coating carbon steel with stainless steels extend across the most diverse types of industries, such as oil, chemical, food, agricultural, nuclear, naval, railway, construction, among several others. The objective of the present work was a metallurgical evaluation of didactic character of the welding of austenitic stainless coating on an ASTM A-36 carbon steel plate. Where two layer coating simulations were carried out on test bodies with electrodes of different grades of stainless steel. Dilutions were analyzed and the microstructures obtained were analyzed, and these were compared with the prediction of constitutional diagrams, in particular, with the Schaeffler diagram.
