Palliative care is a set of measures to promote better quality of life for people with a disease that threatens the continuity of life and also seeks to further improve quality of life for their families through emotional support, social, spiritual and multidisciplinary. In dementia syndromes, there is the impossibility to influence the course of degenerative and progressive disease, and the comfort and rescue attempt of the active control in front of his own life and his death the main focus of the plan of care for the elderly with dementia. The objective of this study is to critically review of the available literature on palliative care in the elderly with dementia. A critical analysis of studies show that patients with dementia who received palliative care had more comfort, greater satisfaction with care and better control of pain and symptoms.
