Resumen
Immediate care of the full term newborn in the delivery room has undergone a
series of modifications in the last years, aiming to reduce the excess of interventions
applied to the child soon after birth. With this, the World Health Organization (WHO)
recommends postponing, after the first hour of life, any routine procedure of attention
to the newborn term and with good vitality, that separates the mother from her baby,
in order to allow the contact skin to skin uninterrupted immediately at birth. This study
aims to implant skin-to-skin contact practice between the mother and the neonate in
the first hour of life in the delivery room for a public maternity hospital, a participant in
the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative in Pernambuco.
The method used in this Intervention Project was the preparation and
realization of awareness workshops with health professionals, who provide care for
childbirth and the NB, on the promotion of skin-to-skin contact (CPP). The theme of
sensitization was chosen through situational diagnosis. The training in the form of a
workshop considers the individual and collective experiences, besides
instrumentalizing the health professional, to adopt in their daily practice the skin-toskin contact immediately. During the workshops some health professionals
demonstrated greater awareness and reported realizing their importance and
responsibility to promote skin-to-skin contact between the mother and the neonate in
the first hour of life.
