dc.description.abstract | The main purpose of this work is to cooperate with people directly responsible for the
reactive compensation sector at energy concessionaries and industrial plants. This work
presents: high and low voltage capacitor banks and great capacitor banks, informing bank
ranges, standard specifications that must be followed and its prescription; how connection
schemes of capacitor banks are normally utilized and installed in three-phases nets; adequate
use of operating equipments, such as magnetic contactors and sectional switches of load
opening; protection and control equipments, guiding users against the risks of inadequate
protection; bank dimensioning; security recommendations, how to handle the banks; and
safety fuse calculation. It was also covered, regarding the great capacitor banks: stage
fractioning; bank formation, mostly the equations that help to study the behavior of great
banks; characteristics of several connection schemes, its advantages and disadvantages;
lightning arresters and grounding switches applications; and an example of dimensional
calculation of capacitor banks. This example consists in the bank determination and
configuration, choice of the safety fuse, TC’s , relays and grounding switches dimensioning. | |
