Resumen
The aim of this study was to conduct a literature review to investigate the
effect of incorporating demand dual task balance training in the elderly. We
performed a systematic search in electronic databases Medline, SciELO, LILACS,
PEDro indexed by October 2012. The descriptors used were: older adults, ederly,
aging, dual task, training, rehabilitation, physical therapy, balance and their
equivalents in Portuguese. Adopted as the research inclusion criteria elderly subjects
(> 60 years) living in the community, independent gait, cognitive impairment without
compromising the performance of dual tasks (Mini-Mental> 24). The same should be
randomized clinical trials and / or controlled understood that a structured protocol
balance training demands associated with dual-task or multitasking. The search
yielded a total of 31 articles: 19 were excluded by reading the title, did not have
access to content, two were excluded after reading the abstract and another two
were excluded for not assess the outcome of interest. It was incorporated to review
an article from the analysis of references, and this review included eight articles.
There was great variability in training protocols, as well as methods of measurement
of outcomes, which compromises the comparison of results between studies. Despite
the variability shown, studies point to an improving balance when they are inserted
into the training demands of dual task. This literature review highlights the need for
more research on the topic for elucidation of the appropriate protocol and dose
training necessary to achieve positive results.
