Several studies have established procedures for controlling the intervening variables in skin irradiated temperature (TIskin), however, it is unknown if sleep changes may affect TIskin. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to verify the effect of 36 hours of sleep deprivation on bilateral symmetry and the thermographic behavior of the skin in healthy men. For this purpose, 11 subjects were submitted to constant a routine protocol of 36 hours of vigilance in controlled environment. Thermal imaging were assessed every 3 hours in a climate-controlled room. A total of 22 interest body regions (ROIs) were analyzed. The results showed that there was no contralateral difference (ºC) greater than 0.5ºC in all the analyzed ROIs and none of the analyzed ROIs showed a statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between the right and left side. However, the behavior analysis showed that the second day after a night of sleep deprivation presented greater absolute values of TIskin from the lower limbs (i.e., thighs and legs) were higher when compared to the first day after three nights of habitual sleep (p<0.05). Thus, it is concluded that sleep deprivation does not affect the contralateral symmetry of TIskin, but maintaining a prolonged vigil above 24 hours increases the TIskin. It is important to highlight that professionals who use thermography in sports and health need to report and control the sleep of subjects, in order to minimize bias.
