Teenage pregnancy is becoming increasingly common in contemporary society, because teenagers are starting their sexual life earlier resulting in serious consequences for the lives of teenagers involved, their children to be born and their families.
Early pregnancy is a concern of national and international health organizations because of the repercussions for physical, psychological and social impact of this phenomenon in current society.
According to data from the city of Belo Horizonte, in 2000, there were 9,684 admissions of female adolescents. In 74% of cases pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium were the reasons for the hospitalizations. Of the 40,531 live births in 1999, 0.5% was children of adolescents between 10 and 14 years and 17% of mothers aged 15 to 19 years.
Between 1993 and 1998, there was an increase of 31% of births to adolescents aged 10 to 14 years and attended by SUS.
From the need to rethink and challenge the health of adolescents with new paradigms and the constant search to bring the medical health of the family also act in promotion, prevention and rehabilitation of adolescent health; flourished motivation to research and create actions to reduce teen pregnancy.
