dc.description.abstractBrazilians National Health System faces the processes of demographic and epidemiological transition in which Brazil is, put the health system faced with some difficulties. As the population ages and chronic disabling diseases become more frequent, and this population needs constant care. In this context the figure of the caregiver as an individual responsible for care in basic and instrumental activities of daily living of the elderly. The caregiver, in addition to exercise its function, also needs care because it is subject to change in their quality of life and health. Faced with this reality is a need for greater attention of health teams also with the caregiver. The present work has as objective to conduct a literature review on the role of caregivers of elderly people assisted by the Family Health Program, its main limitations, difficulties and complaints and their relationship with the health services offered by the Single Health System must think of programs on disease prevention and health promotion aimed at caregivers, in order to provide them with reduced burden by covering the leisure activity and alternative care with their health.
