The bone loss in implant region upon the first implant thread level was considered acceptable over the years. Nevertheless, such loss also adversely affects mainly the esthetic areas with lack of osseous availability. The purpose of this research is to elucidate, from a literature revision, the biological factors related to bone crest remodeling and use of the switching platform, which consists on create a circumferential horizontal difference in between the junction implant/abutment. It is concluded that the switching platform is efficient on the bone crest on the implant region. However, additional studies should be developed in order to convey more comprehension regarding the operation of this system and its longitudinal conduct to be known.
