Uso e abuso dos benzodiazepínicos: revisão bibliográfica para os Profissionais de Saúde da Atenção Básica

This study, whose motivation originated in the daily practice of a Basic Health Unit, aims to conduct a literature review on the misuse of benzodiazepines by users of primary care, its causes and consequences, as well as measures to minimize and prevent indiscriminate and excessive consumption of these medications. This is a narrative review of literature whose material was selected as criteria for selecting the relevance to the topic and date of publication that included the period from 2004 to 2012. It addresses issues such as: brief history of benzodiazepines, causes and consequences of abuse and user profile that makes use of these drugs. Moreover, sought to address how the indiscriminate use of benzodiazepines influence on the daily lives of Basic Health Units, reflecting on the actions necessary to prevent the indiscriminate use of these services and overloading. The study results point to the need for tighter control of pharmaceutical care in dispensing these medications, their indications and their uses correct; enable prescribers to decrease the frequency of chronic and indiscriminate; create health programs aimed at guide and educate the public on the issues that can affect their quality of life, minimizing the harm of its misuse.
