Resumen
The need to carry out this study came from the professional experience with the identification of a gap in theoretical and experiential learning during graduation and clinical residency on how to deal with the end-of-life care of my patients. The objective of this study is to understand the experiences and learning of resident physicians during the care of patients in palliative care. The study is organized in two stages: a scope review and an autoethnography based on the experience of the main author and residents of a private hospital in Belo Horizonte. The search for the scope review was carried out in April 2020 and included qualitative studies on the topic identified in the SCOPUS, LILACS, CINAHL, Embase and Pubmed databases. Connecting the experiences of the study participants with what was evidenced in the scope review, the main themes are specific in a narrative: lack of prior knowledge on the subject, relationship with family-patient, insecurity in palliative care and teaching structure in medical residency. It is important to discuss the experience of providing palliative care and improve education programs on the subject for health professionals to break the taboo around the topic.
