Resumen
This work proposes to model different hybrid vehicles combining electrical and hydraulic technologies and to present control and energy management solutions that utilize the advantages provided by the synergy between these technologies. In the current automotive scenario there is a strong focus on increasing vehicles energy efficiency. In this context, solutions for reducing transportation costs can be reflected in the final products cost, reduced fossil fuel dependence and pollutant gases emissions. Hybrid hydraulic transmission systems use hydropneumatic accumulators to store energy rather than batteries or capacitors and, although less well known, may offer several advantages compared to hybrid-electric systems. A computational package in C++ was created for the modeling and to study different powertrain architectures. The modeled hybrid hydraulic vehicle operating with ethanol under the standard urban driving-cycle indicates 23% fuel saving over the conventional vehicle, despite the increase in shipped mass (estimated at 249 kg) operating the engine at higher efficiency and lower fuel consumption zones. With the power management strategies adopted with the hybrid electric and hydraulic model battery life was improved 17% over the battery life of the Toyota Prius in terms of the number of charge cycles while still maintaining the estimated CO2 emission level at 72 g/km. Finally, assumptions were made to calculate the total cost of ownership of the created models for 5 years.
