Resumen
Mindfulness, has been described as a "non-elaborative, non-judgmental awareness" of experiences in the present moment. The state of mindfulness presents several positive results, among them, the decrease of the symptoms related to stress, like pain, anxiety and depression, besides producing a feeling of well-being. Sports injuries can have a significant psychological impact on athletes, failure to continue athletic practice can be devastating, disrupting recovery, and therefore affecting the athlete's handling of future injuries. Therefore, the present study aims to discuss the use of mindfulness in helping to prevent and rehabilitate injuries in athletes. To this end, we will analyze the state of the art on the relation between mindfulness and injuries in athletes, addressing the current scientific productions on the theme and their respective theoretical models. This review was based on a literature search in the following databases: PubMed/ MEDLINE e LILACS. The research was developed with the following keywords: "mindfulness" AND "injuries" and "mindfulness" AND "athletes". To be eligible for inclusion, the study should: a) be written in English or Portuguese; b) have been published in the last 10 years; c) include athlete participants; d) present mindfulness as an intervention; e) investigate injury or associated factors. Applying the search strategies, a total of 89 articles were found, at the end eight were selected. Based on the results we can see a positive effect of mindfulness on psychological aspects, pain threshold, sleep and injury prevention.
