This study aimed to conduct a literature review to investigate whether aerobic exercise improves aerobic capacity in individuals with stroke. For this, we conducted a review of experimental and quasi experimental studies that investigated the influence of cardiac rehabilitation and on patients after stroke. We performed a literature search through MEDLINE, PEDro, SciELO, LILACS and Cochrane Library, was adopted as inclusion criteria, experimental and quasi experimental studies. 7 articles found: four randomized clinical trials, nearly two experimental and one randomized clinical pilot. The studies suggest that aerobic exercise training can contribute to the improvement of cardiorespiratory function in survivors of stroke. More research is needed to determine the optimal protocol to train individuals with different levels of disability and cardiac risk.
