Resumen
The transfer and decline of matemal antibody to canine parvovirus (CPV) were determined in the sera by hemagglutination-inhibition of 16 immune bitches and their puppies prior partunon and 48/72 hours post-parturion, respectively. Serum samples were colected each two weeks up to four months, depending on litters. Only a minimal variation in CPV antibody levels was observed among the bitches during the whole experimentation period. Bitches CPV antibodies titres were constant and similar and always above the protective level. Colostrum transferred antibodies with titres above 80 persisted for up 12 weeks in some the puppies. Most of the puppies had CPV protective titres wich remained for up to six weeks of age. Antibodies titres varied within and among litters. Puppies from mothers with high antibodies titers had also high antibodies levels. The average antibodies transferred was 86 %. It was observed that an exponential decreased in passively acquired antibodies occured in puppies and the duration of titres was directly proportional to antibodies levels.
