This work presents the modeling of the atmospheric boundary layer to get the wind speed and wind direction profile over a complex terrain. The study of the atmospheric boundary layer is very important for the power lines project, determination of power cables insulating chain oscillation, power line limit load project and study of atmosphere pollutant dispersion as well. The results obtained from the numerical modeling are validated with experimental data found in the literature, for Askervein terrain located in Scotland, and with experimental data for Acuruí terrain, located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The equations used to describe thegeophysical flows are the mass conservation, conservation of linear momentum and the equation of state, without considering the atmosphere thermal effects and of earth rotation. The validation of the modeling for the atmospheric boundary layer using computationaltechniques allows obtain the wind speed and direction profiles over a terrain without the need of an experimental apparatus. In both studied cases, the results were obtained for a steady atmosphere and an atmosphere boundary layer hidrodynamically stable.
