The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of inclusion of crude glycerin, a byproduct of biodiesel, in substitution of corn in the ruminal kinetics and environment of crossbred heifers in a tropical climate. Five crossbred Holstein-Zebu average weight 602.4 ± 70.89 kg in confinement were used in the experiment conducted in the city of Forest - MG. The diets were composed of 74% corn silage, corn grain and soybean meal, with inclusion of 0 (control), 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10% crude glycerin on dry matter, replacing dietary corn. Treatments were provided ad libitum twice daily.. The chemical composition, concentrations of fatty acids, ammonia nitrogen and pH values and kinetics were evaluated in the animals subjected to diets. The kinetics was evaluated using both indicators Cr-cheek, Co-EDTA and forefinger in an experimental phase Lipe ® liquid. The experimental design was a 5x5 Latin square with split plots. The inclusion of crude glycerin up to 10% of the diet dry matter caused no deleterious effects on rumen environment or changes in dry matter intake. There was an increase in the proportion of butyrate in the diet from 7.5% inclusion of crude glycerin. There was no effect of crude glycerin in kinetics. The liquid form of Lipe® showed potential as an indicator of kinetics of solid phase of digesta, but more research is needed.
