Resumen
In order to evaluate the perception of the beneficiaries from the Formation and Mobilization for the Semiarid Familiarity Program: One million Rural Cisterns P1MC about the techniques used in the rainwater harvesting and storage system, the population were asked about the cisterns conquer; the involvement in the systems construction; the detour of the first rains water and the withdraw water process, both done by the beneficiary, were certified; the procedures used to turn the rain water drinkable; the internal and external maintenance of the structure and, lastly, the uses of the stored water and the use of the cistern as reservoir for water from other sources, were also topics in the interviews. The used methodology was the qualitative research, preparing and applying semi structured interviews to 46 heads of the families, in two trips, one in July and other in November of 2011, to the cities of Berilo and Chapada do Norte, both located at the extreme of the Jequitinhonhas river, semi-arid area at the Northeast of Minas Gerais state. The speeches produced by the interviews, after being transcript and briefly edited, were submitted to analysis using the techniques from the Theme Categories (BARDIN, 1978) and the Collective Subject Speech, from Lefèvre and Lefèvre (2007). It was concluded that the P1MC program has reached its goals of bringing the familiarity with the semi-arid, objectified by the rain water cisterns, and made real through the cooperation with local associations and appreciation for popular wisdom, but, it was also observed a discontinuity in the sanitary education related to the care with water withdraw; in the correct use of chemical products for the disinfection of the collected water and in the appropriate use of the rain water that, as observed many times, was mixed with water from other sources.
