dc.description.abstractIntroduction: Fibromyalgia (FM) is a rheumatic disease, etiologically unknown, but with some hypothesis as its pathophysiology. The symptoms presents in FM, more than pain, are also muscle fatigue, sleep alteration, morning stiffness, headaches, depression and stress. Objective: In this analysis aims to demonstrate by articles published if the aquatic physiotherapy can contribute in a satisfactory way to patients who suffer with fibromyalgia. Materials and Methods: We selected some articles published in the last fifteen years using Medline, Lilacs and Pedro databases. Drawing the search of key words thirty- six articles were found. Results: Basing in the analysis and studies, the therapeutic concepts of exercises on the ground and water environment did not present any significant alteration, in the pain aspects, number of tender points, depression and quality of life. Conclusion: The practice of physical activity in a regular way, being made in water environment or not, is important to fibromyalgia patients, because contributes to the restoration of the pain and quality of life.
