Resumen
Equine herpesvirus belongs to Herpesviridae family. Five of them are known to infect horses and three infect mules and donkeys. Type 1 herpesvirus (HV1) is considered an economically important pathogen, causing several clinical manifestations, which occasionally includes neurological disease. Knowledge about the disease has become paramount in order to identify suspect individuals as well as to promptly diagnose clinical cases, avoiding virus spreading. The aim of this study is to revise epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control of neurological disease caused by HV1. Also, it reports one case of classic neurological disease as described in literature, facilitating the understanding of this disease.
