Introduction: Among the most prevalent comorbidities among the elderly is Chronic Low Back Pain (DLC) which is defined as pain lasting longer than 12 weeks. Currently, the use of respiratory therapy techniques is one of intervention strategies in the management of DLC. The physical therapy clinical practice should be based on the precepts of Evidence-Based Practice. There is a need for scientific validation of manual therapy techniques. Objective: This study aimed to survey the characteristics of manual therapy programs as well as its effectiveness in the treatment of elderly patients with DLC. Methodology: This is a literature review on the characteristics and effectiveness of manual therapy for the elderly from 55 years with chronic back pain. Were made in databases: PEDro, Medline, SciELO, Cochrane and SCOPUS. The survey was conducted in the period May to September 2015. Results / Discussion: We selected 10 RCTs that addressed the Manual therapy in the management of DLC in the elderly over the past decade. Conclusion: We observed that among the different evaluated ECAs, different manual therapy strategies are used. The sample is often not broken down by gender and age groups. The results of manual therapy are satisfactory, however, complementarily with other strategies seem to be more promising.
