dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study is to analyze the representation of women in textbooks, especially the ones used with first to fifth graders, offered by PNLD 2013/2015 (Programa Nacional do Livro Didático/ National Program of Textbooks) and chosen by Escola Estadual Pedro Faria, in Governador Valadares, MG. In this respect, the following chapters outline the concepts related to the study and the results collected through the analysis of the textbooks. The qualitative method was used in order to analyze, describe and discuss the selected pictures comprehensively in the examined material. In this research, some of the conclusions confirm that textbooks reinforce traditional ideas based on patriarchal society when they present women repeatedly as housewives performing house chores, and, when in labor market, they performing nursing and teaching activities, which refer to maternity.
