Resumen
The purpose of this article is to report the experience of students recently enrolled in the University in the discipline of Body Perception, offered at the Dance Course of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. In this discipline, students, for the most part, come into contact with somatic practices for the first time. It is proposed to discuss how these practices integrate and foment the processes of training in dance and how somatic education within the context of dance has impacted the formation of the contemporary dancer. Methodologically, we used a brief context of the role of somatic education in the training of the student dance, the experience of the teacher responsible for the discipline, as well as the observation of the learning process of students during the discipline. The study shows the benefits of the presence of somatic education in the learning process of the dance student, while at the same time raising the challenges of this approach in the context of dance teaching.
