This paper aims to investigate how polyrhythm has been approached in the theoretical fields, methods and instrumental practice, in order to report on this subject in a comprehensive way and create drums practices. From Sara Cohen's definitions of two different rhythmic polyrhythmic organizations, it was possible to find examples, such as the studies by Peter Magadini and a solo by drummer Jason Gianni. With these references it was possible to create and systematize practical exercises with polyrhythmias applied in phrases and motor coordination studies involving synchronization of different metrics simultaneously. In addition, the exercises created were applied in samba rhythm in order to present examples for the application in musical genre and also to contribute to the didactics of performance for Brazilian music. Polyrhythmia has been used in several instruments and genres, but it is a field that allows a wide range of rhythmic applications, so this work aims to provide tools for performance and general knowledge on this subject.
