The term Marjolin ulcer is used when malignant neoplasms, especially squamous cell carcinoma, occur on chronic ulcers, fistulas and scars of various etiologies. It is a rare disease, however, with high morbidity. This study aimed to identify clinical and epidemiological characteristics of Marjolin ulcer. Integrative literature review is used as a method. The key question was: What are the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of Marjolin's ulcer? In order to identify the primary studies included in this review, the research was started in November and December of 2018, through the Virtual Health Library. Three articles composed this integrative review, being a cohort study, a descriptive study and a study of series of cases. It is evidenced that any chronic lesion may malignize. However, burn cases are the most common. Biopsy is the safest diagnostic intervention in a timely manner. It is observed that the studies described herein refer to the surgical approach as an effective treatment. It is concluded that any chronic lesion should be followed seriously, and the nurse estomaterapeuta should have as principle to consider the possibility of malignization. It is suggested that protocols be developed for the management of Marjolin ulcer
