The research investigates Brazilian initiatives in the area of public safety from thecomparative study of programs and projects to prevent violence and promote a culture of peace. The aim is, firstly, to observe the participation of so-called civil society, to identify and categorize the various social actors, the roles they play, the type of relationship they establish between themselves and the institutional arrangements involved. It is also aimed the characterization of the initiatives (their objectives, methodology, theoretical assumptions, among other things). These comparisons are potentially a good way to identify points of convergence and singularities. The meeting of different social actors as the State and Civil society over a common theme, is a recent trend and marked by controversy. The comparative analysis of projects and programs reveals the involvement of socio-political actors of the state, market and civil society (represented mainly by NGOs).
