This study aims to identify the complications occurred with the use of totally implanted catheter in patients with cancer. The methodological framework was used to evidence-based practice (EBP) and as a method of literature review integrative review. We selected 05 articles, all accessed through the Internet, in the MEDLINE database and made available by the Department of switching the library. The results showed that infection and obstruction of the totally implanted catheter are the most common complications in their use, and rarely hoarseness, if necessary, specific test for finding this complication. It was also found that complications can be avoided with the proper handling of the device by experienced professionals, with the use of heparin respecting the minimum interval between the introduction and the first use of the catheter. It is considered that the nurse is a professional who handles more this type of catheter after its implementation, leaving further refinement of the technique of manipulation by this professional.
