Resumen
This work describes a proposition for the use of ontologies as an alternative to improve archival classification plans. For such, it is presented a brief grounding on archival and ontology theory, as well as reference ontology of international coverage on the fields of archives and museums. Indeed, in several research fields, ontologies are becoming a matter of interest as an option to organize information. Besides the traditional study as a philosophical subject, theunderlying theory about ontologies has been broadly used in research fields related to systems development, interoperability, semantic web, corporatememory, to mention but a few. In the scope of Information Science, ontologies can be used as a kind of reference, a comparison pattern to evaluate therepresentativeness of the model subjacent to a system. Actually, ontologies can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of classification systems of several sorts, including archival plans, as demonstrate in the present work. The archival plans, according to their importance in organizing archival documents, must be frequently improved. Accordingly, this is the kind of contribution sought in the present work. We conclude about the theme's relevance in approaching archival classification matters, in order to comply with the demands of a reality characterized by computerized systems and archival documents in digital format.
