This master thesis addresses the use of networks equivalent methodologies in voltage stability analysis using voltage and current phasor measurements from Synchronized Phasor Measurement Systems. This new measurement technology has aroused great interest in developing applications that will enable the improvement of activities related both to the expansion and operation of electric power systems, especially those related to real time. In applications involving the study of prediction of voltage instability, Thevenin equivalent is used to transform systems of high complexity in simple circuits of two bus. This makes itpossible to use the whole theory of maximum power transfer as a tool for calculating the point of voltage collapse. Aiming to contribute in this direction, this paper discusses in great detail the application of the methodology of equivalent networks, exposing their limitations and proposing solutions to the problems experienced with its use.
