Resumen
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of greater operational autonomy of the Central Bank of Brazil in the conduct of monetary policy after the adoption of the inflation targeting regime in 1999. In addition to the theoretical discussion on autonomy of the Central Bank, a model of the Taylor rule was estimated from July 1994 to April 2015. It is concluded that the target system is an efficient instrument to give greater autonomy to the Central Bank in conducting the monetary policy. The results obtained by the Taylor rule were favorable to the growth and stability of the Brazilian economy in the analyzed period.
