Resumen
The object of this work is to discuss the circulation of the musical language. It is a case study which, under a historical perspective, investigates forty-four years of operation of the Fundação de Educação Artística (FEA), a free school of music in the cultural environment of the city of Belo Horizonte. To this end, individuals connected to the institution were interviewed, as well as consultations of documents of various types belonging to the archives of the school itself were carried out. Also, an effort of theoretical construction in order to define the concept of circulation was undertaken. From the conception of language of Bakhtin and from de musical semiology of Molino and Nattiez, circulation was defined as the flow of meanings carried within a certain context of interactions. It was understood that the musical language circulates through two main pathways: the Schooling pathway and the Cultural Production pathway. From the possibilities of articulation between these two pathways, from the relationships between processes of artistic creation and processes of teaching/learning music, some issues were derived, addressed to the field of Musical Education. Firstly, the issue concerning the perspective and relevance of training music teachers from concepts which characterize the spirit of the free school: the concept of creative spirit and of pre-figurative teaching by Koellreutter. Secondly, but not less important, an issue related to the positioning (in the field) of the schooling of the musical language (always late in relation to an up to date cultural production) in face of the complex processes of production, circulation and reception in the postmodernity. From the case studied, some general aspect could be inferred, in which that articulation presented itself as a possibility, thereby contributing to allow for reflecting on the relationship of music and its present teaching.
