Educação na prisão : os percalços entre a teoria e a prática na aplicação da modalidade de Educação de Jovens e Adultos no sistema prisional mineiro

The aim of this research was to analyze the educational process in the Minas Gerais prison system, a fundamental right that is guaranteed by the Federal Constitution of Brazil in 1988. Education professionals deal with two educational intentions on a daily basis in the prison environment: the search for the recovery of the individual and the application of the punishment caused by internal transgressions. Due to the educational process being carried out in an environment for serving the sentence, there are safety rules that need to be followed. However, looking for ways to rescue this individual and return his freedom, the State of Minas Gerais, through the Superintendence of Humanization of Care, has sought to fulfill its role with regard to the insertion of individuals in educational, labor, socio-cultural, legal activities and social assistance. How, then, to balance these two conflicting intentions? It is understood that this individual, who is confined, must develop activities that promote moral and ethical values, through education. The challenge presented here will be to investigate the educational data related to the Minas Gerais prison system, through bibliographic review and through qualitative and quantitative analyzes, seeking to understand how the teaching-learning process takes place in this environment, with a view to diagnosing the context of reintegration and recovery of the dignity of the human person through education.
