Resumen
Great urban centers are susceptible to a disorderly development, both in developed and underdeveloped countries. The quality of life in urban areas are usually low owing to a troubled and chaotic environment. The city of Belo Horizonte, like other Brazilian capitals, developed in a way different from what had been planned, as, with the passing of time, the green areas began to disappear and be replaced by buildings and street lanes. The technique of vertical gardens was employed in São Paulo by 90º Movement and in Mexico City by Vertical Green, through the project Via Verde, a way of bringing the vegetation to the built and arid environment, through the implantation of vertical gardens in blind gables and road corridors. Inspired by this technique, the construction of a vertical garden on the viaduct Sarah Kubitschek has been proposed and studied as a plan to rehabilitate the location, aiming at the environmental, social and aesthetical benefits the gardens can bring to Belo Horizonte.
