Resumen
The ankle sprain, very frequent in athletes and individuals with active life is a lesion caused, in most cases, by inversion of the foot due to sudden and violent movements, with the result can be or not the disruption of ligaments. The ankle instability is a subjective character phenomenon which often develops after an ankle sprain by inversion which has been defined as a tendency of the ankle to move during normal activity. This makes the unstable ankle, weaker, more painful and less functional after the injury. The causes of ankle instability have been attributed to two possibilities: the functional instability and mechanical instability. The present study aims was to investigate what the best clinical strategies to treat range of motion deficits post-injury with ligamentous ankle injury. For this study the consulted databases were: BIREME (Virtual Health Library), SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), PubMed (National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health) exploring articles published between 2010 and 2015. 56 articles were initially selected, but after inclusion and exclusion criteria had being used, there were selected seven articles that for this literature review. It can be seen from the study of the articles, which are used differently for the treatment of ankle injuries, these people are athletes or not. The main purpose is to reduce the effects of such lesions, as well as treatment time, to the patient return to activities of daily life. It was possible to be check that there is a consensus in the literature when seeking best practices for the treatment of ankle injuries, but that the types of functional treatment are more comfortable for patients, because they improve their daily activities, for reducing the impact generated by injury / rehabilitation.
