Resumen
The pilates method has been drawing attention due to the technique's resolutiveness in performance and coordination, acting directly on body awareness and breathing. In this way, the demand of athletes for the method has grown in all modalities, especially running. The race is one of the sports that grows the most due to the low cost to practice it and the fact that it is easily accessible. Running requires conscious movement and repetition in harmony, and when one leaves this context, the human body itself becomes vulnerable to various types of injury. The Pilates method presents itself as a good option for injury prevention in runner athletes. Thus, the present study had as main objective to verify the effect of the pilates method on the performance of runners athletes. The descriptors used were: Performance, Runner, Pilates. We searched the Medline, Scielo, PEDro and Lilacs databases. The Review shows that the Pilates method acts directly on specific muscle groups of runners such as quadriceps and iqsuiotibialis that are functional muscles of the race, other studies show us the benefits to core that are a set of stabilizing muscles during the sporting gesture of the race but it remains vague when it comes to the real benefits of the method to the overall performance of athletes such as the influence of the method on reducing a time during a test or increase of steps in a minute, this is necessary to carry out more studies aimed to this theme.
