Resumen
The paper deals with the consequences of Philip Pettit’s republicanism for the market. More particularly, it assesses the coherence of affirming that the ideal of freedom as non-domination, although compatible with the market, requires strong measures against monopolies.
In spite of its originality, it is argued that the implications of the republican approach for antitrust policy are uncertain. First, it is not clear that monopolies give place to domination. Second, even if monopolies are dominating forces, there are reasons to challenge the view that
republicanism would require indiscriminate and aggressive fighting against them.
