This study addresses a craft experience out of school; more specifically in workshops developed with teenagers in a church in Belo Horizonte metropolitan region. Taking as base some definitions of art and craft, it´s similarities and differences; the study tried to point situations where the craft can be a mediator in relations; promoting affective memory activation, through the meeting with handmade objects known in the past. The book Meditations on a hobby horse, written by E. Gombrich, was used as an articulator in all stages of this investigation. These meditations served as a backbone leading debates either in definitions of art and craft or in reflections about representation and the crafts affection; and, finally in discussions about the workshops.
