dc.description.abstractCancer of the cervix (CCU) is the second most lethal cancer that women in Brazil. It is a preventable disease when diagnosed in time and the chances of cure are 100%. The diagnosis is made quickly through a simple test, cheap and effective, the Pap smear. In order to avoid the morbidity and mortality from this disease the government is creating strategies and programs to prevent the emergence and death from CCU. The objective of this study was to make considerations about the morbidity, mortality, main causes of cervical cancer in Brazil and preventive measures for this disease, through a narrative review of the literature. The data found during the search lead us to note that despite access to prevention, diagnosis and treatment are improving the number of women with CCU has not decreased enough. Therefore, you should invest in political awareness and coverage of access nationwide.
