Macrogloss surgical correction: case report Macroglossy is a disease or manifestation of multiple etiology, classified as true or relative, and may be congenital or acquired. Surgical reduction of the tongue is an uncommon procedure, indicated for the correction of functional or aesthetic changes. It may be associated with anterior open bite, bimaxillary protrusion and instability in orthodontic and ortho-surgical treatment. The present study reports a case of patient (18 years), female, melanodermic, with diagnosis of true macroglossy, which prevented the previous orthodontic decompensation for orthognathic surgery, treated with partial glossectomy by the Morgan technique. The treatment outcome was satisfactory with improvements in phonation, swallowing and orthodontic conditions. Keywords: Macroglossya. Glossectomy. Orthognathic surgery.
